About Us
Get Up And Go is a small publishing company based in Sligo, Ireland. What began as the Irish Survivors Diary in 2002, the brainchild of Glenda Devlin, transformed into the Irish Get Up AND Go Diary in 2007 with the arrival of Eileen Forrestal and Brendan Sands, and led to the formation of Get Up And Go Publications Ltd.
Glenda Devlin was born in South Africa in 1956 and has positively influenced people for many years. She published her first book at age 21. Now living in Sligo, where she teaches Arts, Crafts, Personal Development and Home economics, her positive disposition and many talents have influenced and enriched the lives of many thousands. Delivering a talk in 2001 titled“ Only you can make the difference” to a group of therapists who’s responsibility was to deal with people in crisis, for whatever reason, she realised her approach to a challenge was indeed different. What she found was, in her own worst moments, as she dealt with the illness and death of her beloved husband Tommy while adjusting to life in a new country, she still had the capacity to inspire others. “It appeared to me it wasn’t my circumstances that were different, but my attitude to those circumstances.” She traced the origin of her attitude back to her father whom she described as a ‘searching soul’ who’s years of accumulated wisdom had rubbed off on her since early childhood. Putting some of those wise thoughts on paper in a way that would benefit others resulted in the wonderful inspirational diary. This motivational diary is hugely popular. Happiness is an inside job.
Brendan Sands: Born ninth in a family of twelve children in Newry, Northern Ireland, in 1957, Brendan is familiar with the struggle for one voice to be heard in the midst of many. No stranger to tragedy and troubles over the years, the enduring values of love, respect, and acceptance, in home and heart, continue to enhance his life, and the lives of all he comes in contact with. In his own family and community he now provides a generous listening and the quiet voice of integrity and leadership. Formerly a construction worker, and still a keen cyclist and fearless adventurer, Brendan is now unstoppable in sharing his philosophy of Get Up and Go, his favourite motivational diary, and that anything is possible if you don’t allow yourself to be stopped by circumstances.. ….
Eileen Forrestal: A Health Professional working in the front line of acute hospital medicine in Ireland for many years, Eileen is a keen advocate of ongoing personal growth and development as an access to emotional health and physical well being. “ I have a vison for the world”, she says, “that, in time, all people know themselves as whole, perfect, complete and loved, present to the unique gift they are to the world, and at the source of their own health, wellbeing and happiness .
Humanity healed, free, and at peace”. A tall order indeed.
Her involvement with thes Get Up and Go Diary supports her core beliefs: ‘A healthy mind-A healthy body’. “Reading is to the mind what eating is to the body: be careful what you feed it”.
Forgive the past - let it go
Live the present - the power of now
Create the future - thoughts become things………
“Everybody would love one”
